How Random Babbling Becomes Corporate Policy

Phew- that's finished

Four days of teaching the roughest client NH gets. The first three days were LDAP- not something I'm terribly familiar with (well, wasn't terribly familiar with- now? Now I could administer an LDAP server). That was mind breaking, and left me worn out at the end of the day, barely able to muster the effort or the interest to get another pack of smokes, let alone do anything creative or interesting.

Today, I expected to be worse. I was told it was going to be linux networking. I can (and did) teach everything I knew about networking in two hours. I am not a network guy. No interest. Buuut- this wasn't just networking. A bunch of Unix sysadmins wanted to make the switch to Linux- and so I walked the students through that change. Today- wasn't a piece of cake, but it wasn't a big deal either. I pulled through, and it's done.

I'm not teaching tomorrow. Thank the gods, I need a break. And then, tomorrow night, I hop a plane for Pittsburgh, and then drive back to Albany with Minna, so's she can move into her schwank apartment just up the street from me.

Now, I really need to hit ljsim, though I'm not up to that yet- probably tomorrow I'll push the plot through. Sam should be over soon- we're gonna do... something. Don't know what yet. Dinner will be part of it though. And I definitely need to work on some music. I'm inches away from having enough songs to call an album- all that I'll have to do is mix them all together into one coherent whole. It'll be rough- they're pretty schizophrenic, but there's definitely a common thread to the style.

Once that's done... some cover art and liner notes, and I'm probably going to press a few and do a little selling. Nothing major, I'm not going to start my own label or anything crazy. The hard copy of the album- while you'll have to pay for it- will all be CC licensed, ensuring that people can build off of my work and create their own things- not commercial. I figure, if someone wants to share my song, remix my song- go for it. But if you're going to make a dime off of it, then I get some of that dime.

I'm so glad this week is over- it'll be nice to have a life again.
