I just read that recruiters will often google a prospective employee. Is this a good or bad thing?

One thing that's for sure <a href="http://www.google.com/serach?q="Remy+Porter">googling me</a> turns up interesting things, including my livejournal.

So, if you're a saavy recruiter, I wave at you! Then I go back to researching your company, brushing up on Cold Fusion, and otherwise preparing for my interview tonight.
