In "Space, Above and Beyond", the last war before the one the show is about was the AI war. Standard idea, AI robots were made as human servants, and rebelled. But what's interesting is how it happened. The AI's were capable of understanding human ideas, but not able to create new ideas. Just a rehash of what was already there. They could understand freedom, but not how to get it. Then, one day, an AI programmer was sick of his boss taking all the credit for his work. So he went to the central AI core and uploaded a virus, with one simple directive: "Take a chance."
