I think that programming should be considered a required part of any well rounded education. And I don't mean for any of that bullshit about how computers are changing the world, and everyone should know something about them.

You can know everything you need to operate a computer without knowing a lick about writing software.

No, programming should be used to teach cognitive skills, language, structure, problem solving. Programming should be taught in elementary school, along with basic arithmatic and english. By doing that, you can ensure that the language centers of the brain get aligned in such a manner as to blend all three into a seamless language process.

Other thoughts on language: A functional decomposition of a sentance can be used to understand language without knowledge of the grammar, just the behavior of every word. For example:

This is a sentance.
is(this, a(sentance))

Sentance is an atomic variable, containing the meaning: the basic gramattical component.
a is a quantifier, that takes as a paramater one noun, and results in a single copy of that meaning.
Is is a verbal function, taking two paramaters, the left-hand noun, and the right hand noun. Is returns a relationship between these two nouns, stating equivalency.

Meanwhile, I'm having fun playing with my pet nation. Despite cries from muggers claiming that they get mugged too much, I've decided against adding more police. The other options that people proposed were to start a welfare programme, or to have stiffer penalties for crimes.

All of these go against an anarchist state. Besides, once I catch criminals, what am I supposed to do with them? I'd rather start a programme to arm the populace, adhering to the ruling that an armed society is a polite society.

Film Review

So, The Two Towers, realeased under its true name despite those morons, which, in a completely unrelated note, I think was just a scam to hit people with popups. It's my hope that no one could be that stupid!

Okay, at any rate, the film review.

First off, it does drag on forever, which, being the middle of a trilogy, three hours, and part of an epic, is to be expected. For some reason, I remember the first movie as being much prettier, with better effects. Maybe that was just because of more interesting settings, lots of wastelands and empty plains in this one.

Everyone is talking about Gollum, which is to be understood. He was well voiced and well animated and well scripted. I think the main reason he stands out is because he was the most interesting character in the whole thing. Everyone else has already fallen into set roles, and we don't see a great deal of interest in anyone else. Yeah, I said it, all of the characters were pretty damn flat. Which is the main reason I stopped reading the books.

The seriousminded, reluctant and oh so bad ass leader, Aragorn. The NPC badass who gets shit done, Gandalf. Random fighter dudes galore, and then the requsite window dressing, Legolas.

Despite my "fucking elves, damn fucking elves", I can't be too hard on Legolas. I've played many a swashbuckler in RPGs that tried those same moves, with less consistant success. Especially the shield thing. I had a character who did something like that, right down to impaling the guy with the shield at the end. Not to be a spoiler or anything for those that haven't seen it.

I can't fault the film for its special effects, and it was decidedly cool to see Massive in action; everyone in the crowd scenes was an individual, and it made me think back to films like Spartacus, or more recently, Gettysburg. These massive, extra-packed slugfests, except this one was all CG.

On Mortal Despotism

I propose this form of Government:
An individual is selected at random from the population, and given a chance to be ruler. They choose wether or not they are interested in this, and if they are, they are ruler for life.

This ruler recieves no security, or protection, and cannot, through thier nearly unlimited power, change those aspects of their rule. Moreover, it is not a crime of any degree, to kill this ruler.

Now that's democracy.
