The Right to Seek Redress...

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Here's the shit of it. Because this is the executive branch and not congress, the fuckers will probably argue that the First Amendment doesn't apply to them.
  • The depressing part of this is that, given the reactionary nature of our country, we're going to end up with an uber-democrat in the next election cycle. The lack of difference between our democrats and neocons will be certain to ensure that nothing changes and nothing is fixed.
    • When the Government gathers more power to any one part of itself, it is unlikely that power will ever be released. A unitary executive is not good for anyone. The idea that we must sacrifice our own needs for those of the State, the idea that the State has the right to ignore or silence dissent, the idea that the Executive should be the repository of sovereign power bears a disturbing resemblance to previous political movements.

The main reason I wish Ron Paul stood a chance is that Ron Paul is the only candidate to say that he wants to limit the power of the executive. Considering the current political climate, that is the most important issue in the next election cycle.
