My Hat!
Awhile ago, Christopher let me know the Red Hat class had gone, in his words, "Up in smoke". Today, the COBOL class goes the same way.

They do have another interested client, so there may be a COBOL class in the near future, but this still really sucks.

Buh-bye $600 a day, hope to see you soon.

At any rate, anyone looking for a C/C++, Java, .NET, PERL, COBOL programmer with database experience?
  • Oh no! (hugs)
  • Hrm. It seems to me that it would be most beneficial for your career to be job hunting from where you're seeking your job. Which would be very difficult to do without enough money to pay for apartment.

So do you think I should pay Cate up front the full amount for
    1. formal wedding dress
    2. gypsy dress
    3. informal wedding dress

We could wangle an amount based on fair price for garments involving highly skilled labor - I'm sure there must be going rates for costume-artisans.

Once you're actually up here, you can always work 20-40 hours a week at a stupid job until you get a job that matches your degree and skills. At least it will bring in money. Price Chopper will hire ANYONE. Even people with a master's degree, if you aren't too noisy about it. And Alfreds will probably be happy to have Cate back if she wants to work there.

From what Greg says, NH is on its way down the tubes and it's like rats fleeing a sinking ship. But there are other places to work, and I will give you a small stack of job seeking advice books.

They all amount to variations on the Rules of Acquisition. "It never hurts to suck up to the boss."
    • There is that, and seeing as that was part of the original deal anyway....

It's really up to you. I know how badly things are doing for you at the moment, so I don't really want to be a drain on you either. It's entirely different leeching money from a generi-boss, or a generi-customer. I actually _like_ you. I can work out an estimation on the dress rates and all that, but I don't know really where to begin on that. My prices are usualy pretty low, and better for friends, and your dress making cost (aside from the fabric) was supposed to be a gift.
    • Though there is the fact that with relocation I'd actually be in a place where you can come over for regular fittings and such, so things would actually get _done_....
      • And on the other hand, having you up here would be a gift too. I can't give you anywhere near $4800. But maybe enough for the apartment deposit? I don't know what that will "cover" in terms of your fees, but we're friends and counting pennies just gets in the way. Then again, if someday I really need a favor, guess who may show up on your doorstep... :-p

I want you guys to be steady on your own financial footing. There's no way you're going to do that in Kingston. Once you're up here, you can take cruddy jobs and search for better ones. Even if it means Remy takes civil service exams ;-) (ugh can you imagine what havoc he would wreak on a bureaucracy?!) I wouldn't like you two so much if I thought you were the types to sit on your asses and mooch for fun.

    • Guh... that one's _way_ over my head. I can bullshit, but I barely know anything about networking.

This doesn't mean I'm not gonna shoot at it- what the hell- but if it sounds like I may land an interview, I'm gonna have to study my ass off.
